Swachh Bharat Mission(SBM)was announced by our Prime Minister ShriNarendraModiand was launched on 2ndOctober 2014, Gandhi Jayanti. The aim of this programme is to eradicate open defecation by year 2019, thus restructuring the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan. SBM is a national campaign, covering 4,041 statutory cities and towns. The government is aiming to achieve an Open-Defecation Free (ODF) India by 2ndOctober 2019, the 150thbirth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, by constructing 12 crore toilets in rural India, at a cost of Rs1.96 lakh crore. The programme has also received funding and technical support from the World Bank, corporations as a part of corporate social responsibility initiatives, and by state government under the SarvaShikshaAbhiyan and RashtriyaMadhyamikShikshaAbhiyan schemes.Under this scheme, government provides an incentive of Rs12,000 for each toilet constructed by a BPL family. Total fund mobilised under Swachh Bharat Kosh (SBK) as on 31 January 2016 stood at Rs3.69 billion. An amount of Rs90 billion was allocated for the mission in 2016 Union budget of India.
The main objective of the SBM is to change people’s mindset for proper sanitation use. To do so, the constructionof individual, cluster and/orcommunity toilets in villages is essential thing. As a part of SBM and instructions provided by GTU we, the Babaria Institute of Technology, have contributed by means of Shram Danto construct toilets in the village Sherkhi, in collaboration with District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Panchayat and local villagers.
Sherkhi is a large village located in Vadodara, Gujarat with total 1841 families residing. It has population of 9464 of which 4874 are males while 4590 are females as per Population Census 2011. In Sherkhi village population of children with age 0-6 is 1182 which makes up 12.49 % of total population of village. Average Sex Ratio of Villageis 942which are higher than Gujarat state average of 919. Child Sex Ratio for the Sherkhi as per census is 858, lower than Gujarat average of 890.Sherkhi village has higher literacy rate compared to Gujarat. In 2011, literacy rate of Sherkhi village was 84.48 % compared to 78.03 % of Gujarat. In Sherkhi Male literacy stands at 91.86 % while female literacy rate was 76.76 %. Still numbers of families are residing below the poverty line and are deprived of the proper sanitation and hygiene.
As per constitution of India and PanchyatiRaaj Act, Sherkhi village is administrated by Sarpanch, who is elected representative of village.
With due respect to this important mission initiated by our Prime Minister Shri NarendraModi, many schools and colleges actively participated with this program and hence we too with our students showed strong interest and actively participated in the mission. This is just to inculcate the feeling of love for our nation in the minds of the students.Total 123 students volunteersalong with two faculty members Dr.Keyur J. Patel and Mr.PrashantNisarta of our institutevisited the village forShram Dan at SherkhiVillage from 30/08/2016 to 01/09/2016. The student volunteers willingly helpedvillagers to construct the toilet blocks by means of preparing underground chambers (pits), constructing brick wall etc.
After having lunch, the volunteers surveyed the village. They went for walk across the village and interacted with the people of the village in order to change people’s mindset for proper sanitation use. On behalf of the Institute, faculty members appreciated the student volunteers for their work. They also thanked the village Sarpanch and Talati,KrantiTrivedi for their kind support and for providing food to our student volunteers.

[/fusion_gallery]Rough Guide – The Best seller!
As a part of the Community Services Programme, BITS Edu Campus published a career counseling booklet for the twelfth graders that gives them insight into how not to select a wrong discipline for their undergraduate studies. The booklet called the ” Rough Guide 2 What You can be…” tells the kids about a variety of careers and the successful people and ends up with a note that there is always room at the top provided you choose a career that you like the most rather than influenced by market forces and parents!
These booklets were freely distributed to the students in and around the City of Baroda, followed by a lecture on career opportunities. The booklet was so popular that we had rush for reprints too often.
Vacation Session for Outsiders
During vacation period every year we provide necessary facilities to the students and unemployed youths of the nearby villages to take benefits of our well equipped workshop and laboratories of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering Department of our Institute to enhance the knowledge and wisdom of their respective fields.
Armed Forces Flag Day is being celebrated in our Institute every year on 7th December every year. This year also we have celebrated it and generously donated to the Flag Day Fund in appreciation of the Armed Forces for all they do for the Nation in Performance of their onerous duties.
When death struck in the form of giants waves lashing out the entire coastal populations of the South East Asia and particularly India, the students, the faculty and the management contributed handsomely to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. Cheers for Philanthropic activity.
